WEHL is dedicated to improving the quality of life, one person at a time. As
such, we only charge for the actual cost of the services performed. When
funds are available from contributions, we hope to offer discounted and/or
scholarships when needed.
WEHL will be happy to give a program to your group. These 1-2 hour programs
consist of a PowerPoint presentation describing 7 easy steps to improve your
air quality and 7 easy steps to lower your exposure to electromagnetic
radiation from a Building Biology perspective. Please contact us at
wehlinfo@wehliving.org or 931-670-3576 to schedule a program. Donations
received for programs will be applied to further development of educational
programs about healthy buildings.
Seminars are 2-3 hours and consist of a PowerPoint presentation and live
demonstrations describing 7 easy steps to improve your air quality and 7 easy
steps to lower your exposure to electromagnetic radiation from a Building
Biology perspective. Normally, the upcoming seminar
schedule will be posted on the WEHL website, www.wehliving.org. If you
are interested in attending or scheduling a seminar, please contact us as
wehlinfo@wehliving.org or 931-670-3576.
Home assessments consist of two major components: indoor air quality and
electromagnetic radiation. As the areas where you spend the most time, such as
sleeping areas or offices, have the greatest impact on health, assessments will
concentrate on these areas. WEHL will first collect information, through
interviews and a walk-through inspection to determine likely problems. From
this data a hypothesis about the health of the building is developed and a more
thorough inspection and testing plan will be formed. The inspection will
include, but not be limited to, potential areas of moisture intrusion and
pollution sources. When necessary, tests with conventional instrumentation will
be done to check the hypothesis. Lab tests may also be included as required.
Based on the visual inspection, tests and lab results, a report with
recommendations will be provided.
Consultations are pre-assessment meetings between WEHL and the client. During
this meeting, WEHL will collect information through interviews and a
walk-through to determine likely problems. From this data a hypothesis about
the health of the building is developed, and a more thorough inspection and
testing plan will be formed, if necessary.
A consultation usually takes 1= - 2 hours.
A full assessment that includes both the indoor air
quality (IAQ) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) takes approximately 6 hours.
The IAQ or EMR assessments alone, each take approximately 3 hours.
The cost of home assessments depends on the size of the home, as well as, the
location. Homes outside of Davidson, Williamson, Dickson, Hickman, and Cheatham
counties may incur additional travel charge. Assessments can be full
assessments, only Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) or only Electromagnetic Radiation
(EMR).
Bau-biologie, a term coined in Germany, is a word used to describe a movement
promoting the use of healthy building principles as a means to improve living
and work spaces and the health of people who occupy them. Bau-biologie
literally means, "building biology." Both terms are now used interchangeably
and both have exactly the same definition -
"how buildings impact life and the living environment."
IBE, the International Institute of Bau-Biologie & Ecology
TM
is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education of how buildings impact
health.

The EPA studied life span in a number of cities as related to the amount of
fine dirt particles in the air. Results indicated significantly shortened life
spans in cities with dirtier air. Surprisingly,
EPA studies also show that home air is often 6 to 10 times more
polluted than outdoor city air. Home air is contaminated by organic and
inorganic particles and toxic gases.
Organic particles can be mold and mildew spores, dust mite parts and
feces, animal dander, fabric dust and tobacco smoke.
Inorganic particles include very fine soluble and insoluble dusts
generated by industrial processes which are carried everywhere by the wind and
find their way into homes.
Toxic gases include leaking natural gas and volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) produced by man-made and natural sources. Particle board, new furniture,
carpet pad, and new permanent press clothing release formaldehyde, a potent
allergy sensitizer and known carcinogen.
Electrical Oversensitivity or Electrical Hypersensitivity is a fairly new
phenomenon, the first cases and discussions came to public knowledge in the
early seventies.
The
first signs of electrical hypersensitivity are often experienced as
a minor irritation. A frequent symptom is that of warmth or a burning sensation
in the face, not unlike a strong sunburn. Some people develop a reddish skin
blemish or rash at the same time. These can also be accompanied by a tingling
sensations in the skin, both facially and/or over other parts of the body. In
addition eye problems can occur. You might get the feeling that the mucus
membranes have dried.

Will you or your loved ones volunteer for the largest uncontrolled experiment
in the history of the world? Digital wireless communications (Cell phones, PCS)
is growing explosively. Yet, based on scientific evidence there is reason to
believe that wireless radiations are harmful to health.
Most people think that microwave ovens do not have any negative health
consequences. After all, if they did the government would not allow this
product on the market. Think again. Microwave ovens use electromagnetic energy
that vibrates 2.4 billion times per second. This energy acts on the molecules
in food, particularly water molecules, causing them to rapidly vibrate. This
rapid movement generates friction and thus heat. Vibration is so violent that
molecules are often torn apart or distorted, thereby changing the chemical
makeup of the food. Additionally, this appliance leaks microwaves into the
environment around it.
People most at risk from indoor air pollution are newborns, young children,
elderly, heart patients and those with bronchitis, asthma, and allergies. In
addition, individuals with known chemical sensitivities or who are
immuno-compromised are at risk.
No, most often the remedies are easy to do and inexpensive; however, if fungal
growth (mold) is found, then the repair may be costly and require a licensed
mold remediation contractor.
